Stay safe: Working on the brake

#Workshop

Special care must be taken with brakes. Even small errors can become significant safety risks. Another reason to rely on professional products for installation.

The assembly or repair of brakes including disks and linings during brake service is one of the daily tasks in every workshop. When working on brake systems, proper cleaning of all components and the use of suitable lubricants at the required points is a basic prerequisite for the faultless function and safety of the brake system. The cleaners and pastes we have developed for this purpose ensure a reliable lubricating, separating and anti-corrosion effect, even under extreme temperatures and pressures.

Cleaning the brake system

Brake dust forms on the brake system due to driving and wear of the brake pads. This must be removed before working on the brake system, as the small particles are highly harmful to health if they come into contact with the throat and airways.

For this reason, compressed air should not be used to remove them, as this only stirs them up.

Whether brake dust or deposits from working on the brake system, Rapid Cleaner effortlessly dissolves oil, grease, resin as well as tar-like residues and dirt on the brake system. Parts treated will be completely free of residues and fully degreased afterwards. It also has excellent penetration properties as well as controlled evaporation free of residues. This makes work on the brake system cleaner and safer.

With our ASD filling station and air spray cans, you can also easily avoid unnecessary waste. This not only saves resources, but is also economically profitable.

Preventing squealing brakes

Brake pads are usually fitted ex works without high-temperature paste between the contact surfaces of the brake pad carrier. Due to the lack of lubrication, the brake pads do not slide far enough away from the brake disk after the braking process. The insufficient distance means that there is slight contact even after the braking process. However, the quality, reaching the wear limit, long service life or incorrect fitting can also be reasons for annoying noises such as squeaking, screeching or rubbing and can result in faster wear of the components.

This can be remedied by applying Brake Anti-Squeal Paste to the contact surfaces of the brake lining carrier. In this way, tilting is prevented, the pad carrier remains movable and the brake pads are guided smoothly. Squeaking becomes a thing of the past. In addition, the paste protects against seizing or rust freezing and thus offers good corrosion protection, is very resistant to temperature as well as road salt and splash water and has excellent adhesion properties. This makes it ideal for the entire brake system: on disk brake linings, bolts, pins, contact points for drum brakes and other plug and screw connectors.

The picture shows impressively what happens when the wrong grease is used. The rubber component swells and thus reduces the braking performance or causes the brake to seize.

With aging of the brake system, damage to the sealing collar or the use of incorrect greases, it is also possible that the guide pin of the brake caliper becomes increasingly immobile. As a result, the full braking force cannot be generated and the brake pads wear unevenly.

To counteract this problem, the guide pins of the brake caliper should also be cleaned and re-lubricated when the brake pads are replaced. However, it is important to ensure that the correct lubricant is used.

LIQUI MOLY Brake Pin Lube is a synthetic special lubricant for the assembly and repair of brake systems, which keeps the guide pins operating smoothly over the long term and ensures optimum function and even wear of the brake pads. It also dampens the noise generated by vibration, keeps the rubber collars tight and thus prevents water from entering. This protects against corrosion and ensures a long service life. In addition, the grease is very resistant to water, has very good adhesion and pressure absorption properties and ensures low friction values as well as wear protection.

Brake Pin Lube meets the requirements of various OEMs for use on supported guides.

Also suitable for lubricating the guide pins in floating caliper brake systems: If small quantities come into contact with brake fluids (DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 4 LV / SL6 DOT 4, DOT 5.1), no negative effect on the brake fluid is to be expected.

Easy wheel removal/mounting

Corrosion occurs between the wheel hub and the rim due to (salt) water, especially in winter or in regions with high air humidity. As a result, the rim can only be detached from the wheel hub with a great deal of force.

Wheel Hub Paste prevents corrosion or oxidation between the rim and wheel hub. This makes it easy and quick to remove the rim, even after a long period of time. It offers outstanding corrosion protection, optimum separating effect, excellent adhesion, extremely low friction coefficients and is very resistant to temperature, road salt and splash water.

The right brake fluid

Our brake fluids are the optimum choice for any vehicle brake system. They have been developed to ensure outstanding performance and safety. With their excellent wet and dry boiling points and outstanding anti-corrosion properties, they ensure reliable braking force transmission and at the same time protect the brake system from wear and rust. Special additives help to protect against the formation of steam bubbles.

You can find the right brake fluid for every vehicle in our oil guide.
